Many of our vets have a variety of interests, including:

  • Small Animal orthopaedics (including cruciates and fracture repairs)

The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join our growing team and support our network of over 100 staff members. This compliance-focused role is crucial to maintaining our high standards and ensuring we continue to provide a safe, supportive workplace across all our locations.

This position offers the perfect balance of independence and collaboration - you'll work autonomously on compliance matters while being part of a supportive administrative team. Reporting to the General Manager, you'll be the go-to person for complex HR matters

What You'll Be Doing

Compliance & Legislative Management

· Ensure organisational compliance with Fair Work legislation, WorkCover requirements, and OH&S regulations

· Implement and monitor our Mental Health Framework

· Conduct compliance audits and develop corrective action plans

· Maintain current knowledge of all relevant workplace legislation

HR Operations & Support

· Handle escalated HR matters from Team Leaders

· Coach Team Leaders in difficult conversations, navigating people management and providing support to their team

· Drive recruitment processes from enquiry through to onboarding

· Co-ordinate and administer performance management processes and documentation with our Teams

· Conduct exit interviews and prepare comprehensive reports

· Investigate workplace issues in accordance with policies and legislation

Systems & Administration

· Review and update HR policies and procedures with guidance from the Executive Team

· Issue Tropical Vets policies and ensure staff understand and comply with them

· Maintain HR systems ensuring data accuracy and compliance

· Prepare detailed reports for Group General Manger and the Director Group

· Conduct monthly WHS meetings and maintain accurate minutes

· Coordinate staff surveys and feedback processes

Training & Development

· Implement and maintain our Learning Management System

· Develop and maintain annual training calendar

· Support career progression planning for all staff

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

· Relevant HR qualification or equivalent experience in HR Advisory

· Minimum 4 years of HR experience in a HR specific role

· Certificate IV level HR qualification or higher

· Proven experience with HR compliance and Australian workplace legislation

· Comprehensive understanding of Fair Work legislation and awards

· Working knowledge of WorkCover requirements and OH&S legislation

· Experience with Mental Health Framework implementation

· Australian work rights are required for this position

Skills & Attributes:

· Exceptional organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail

· Strong written and verbal communication abilities

· High level of professional maturity and independent work capability

· Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion

· Strong problem-solving skills and objective approach to conflict resolution

· Report writing skills with ability to present clear information to senior management

Please note: While experience in a veterinary or healthcare environment would be advantageous, it is not essential. We value HR expertise and are happy to provide industry-specific training.
